Showroom Treasure: WINDCOAT by ISSEY Miyake

The WINDCOAT by Issey Miyake is one of the treasures we carry in the DKM collection.
Enjoy the backstory about this incredible piece.
Miyake’s Flowing Coats
ISSEY Miyake is one of the most innovative designers worldwide. Born in Hiroshima, he later studied in Tokyo and followed a career in Paris and New York, working for Guy Laroche, Givenchy, Geoffrey Beene and others. He has become famous for his billowy wide unisex designs. Like no other he is the king of flowing soft shapes that feel like air.

His invention of the WINDCOAT line in 1989 was one of his lines inspired by kimonos. Kimonos are the cornerstone of ISSEY Miyake’s designs. “When you wear a kimono it’s like wearing air”.

The WINDCOAT coat we carry in our collection is one of his Kimono-like designs. The coat is made from lightweight nylon and fleece, this coat can be worn from two sides. The golden beige tone and detachable hood make this piece a timeless rarity for men and women. The coat has an oversize transformative shape that you rarely see in todays fashion. That’s why we love vintage!

“Despite unusual and some thoroughly utopian ideals, Miyake appeals to a clientéle of forward thinkers and designers who wear his clothing with the same zeal and energy from which they were created”
